Shed Door Expanded
During the summer months, some of the doors in my house become difficult to open and close. i can get them to shut by either slamming the door or by pulling upwards on the doorknob before opening or closing the door.. The most common type of shed hinge is the 't' hinge. this has a short cross to the t for fixing to the door jamb and a long strap which fixes across the face of the door.. The doors are inset with strap hinges mounted on the front. the problem is they expanded at least 3/16" each. they are pair of slab type doors 16" wide x 36" tall..
The problem, i think, is that the door frame shrinks in the winter more than the door does (most likely it has a higher thermal expansion coefficient). so both the door and door frame shrink slightly during the winter, but the door frame slightly more, resulting in a door that won't fit!. A door will warp at the edges or in the middle. to determine how to fix it, you need to find out where the warp is. if the door doesn't open or close properly, you can assume the door has swollen against the floor, part of the frame or the ceiling.. This video explains how you can fix a door that hits the jamb when you try to close it. for more diy tips, articles, videos or to find local home improvement....
